Meet The Team

Tony Crane

Tony’s love of contracting, home improvement and building and construction began when he was a contractor in college.  He entered the home building industry over 30 years ago, working for national builders Ryland Homes and DR Horton Homes, then launched his own company Crane Homes.  Crane Homes built new single-family homes in the Baltimore/Washington region for over 15 years.  Tony previously led Ryland Homes’ Harford Division and managed DR Horton Custom Homes in Montgomery County, Maryland.

In 2007, Tony shifted from new home construction to energy efficiency driven renovation work. With partner Rich Thometz, he started Efficient Home, a firm focused on energy efficiency retrofits, which has improved thousands of homes throughout Maryland.  This was the first step toward the creation of Sitka Properties, where we are committed to providing high quality, highly efficient renovated homes to our clients.

Tony is active in community work. He sits on the Steering Committee of the Maryland Chapter of Efficiency First, is a lifetime director of the Maryland National Capital Building Industry Association, and is President of the Montgomery County Construction Trades Foundation, dedicated to providing technical training to high school students.  Tony enjoys travel with his wife and kids, skiing, golfing, and cheering on the Terps.

Rich Thometz

Rich’s career has been focused on providing housing for homeowners and residents in Maryland and the Midatlantic region, ranging from large scale planned development communities to smaller infill redevelopments. Rich brings an entrepreneurial focus to business development, finance and legal aspects of the Sitka business lines.

Building on the solid experience foundation he established while at a successful land development firm and then with Winchester Homes, Rich founded Hailey Development, a real estate development firm, in 1998 (www.haileydev.com). He started Efficient Home, an energy efficiency services contractor, with builder Tony Crane in 2008  (www.efficienthomellc.com).  The Sitka businesses reflect an intersection of his prior development, home building and contracting experiences – working to deliver high quality housing via the already built environment, in Baltimore and other communities in the Midatlantic.

When not working, Rich enjoys time with his wife and family, fishing, skiing, and attending sporting events in the Baltimore/DC corridor (along with his Boise State Broncos).  He holds dual undergraduate degrees in accounting and government & politics from the University of Maryland, along with a law degree from Georgetown University.

Joe Carroll

Joe’s interest in houses started at a very early age. Instead or reading and writing, he  would more often be found drawing pictures of houses.

The various jobs throughout his 35 year career have all been centered around improving residential and commercial homes. He is a Certified Kitchen Designer, Building Analyst, certified in lead remediation, studied architecture and construction management at Montgomery College, and loves the fine details of woodworking.

In his free time, Joe enjoys cooking, road trips, golf, concerts, football and anything that can involve the whole family. He is currently pursuing building a home for the first time.
